Fomo vs Phantom: not really rivals
Phantom is a wallet that can swap. Fomo is a trading app that happens to include a wallet. People compare them on swap fees — and that comparison is real, Phantom is reported at 0.85% on select pairs against Fomo's 0.5% — but the fee is not the main thing separating them.
The short answer
| Swapping under ~$112 | Phantom is cheaper — Fomo's ~$0.95 minimum bites |
| Swapping over ~$112 | Fomo is cheaper, more so with code FEESAVE at 0.45% |
| Phantom rate | 0.85% reported on select swap pairs, no minimum reported |
| Fomo rate | 0.5% (0.45% with a code), minimum ~$0.95 per trade |
| Copy trading / social feed | Fomo only |
| General-purpose wallet | Phantom only — NFTs, dApps, staking, many chains |
| Key handling | Phantom: seed phrase · Fomo: split key, no phrase |
What each one takes per swap
Phantom's fee is reported as applying to select swap pairs rather than all of them, so treat 0.85% as a ceiling you may or may not hit. Fomo's rate is flat but floored.
| Trade size | Phantom @ 0.85% | Fomo standard | Fomo + FEESAVE | Cheapest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $50 | $0.43 | $0.95 | $0.95 | Phantom |
| $100 | $0.85 | $0.95 | $0.95 | Phantom |
| $112 | $0.95 | $0.95 | $0.95 | Identical — break-even |
| $500 | $4.25 | $2.50 | $2.25 | Fomo — roughly half |
| $1,000 | $8.50 | $5.00 | $4.50 | Fomo |
| $5,000 | $42.50 | $25.00 | $22.50 | Fomo, by $20 |
Phantom's 0.85% figure comes from third-party reporting dated September 2025 and updated May 2026, describing select swap pairs — not all swaps, and not necessarily current. Fomo figures assume its ~$0.95 minimum is not discounted. Network fees are excluded on both sides.
0.85% of $112 is roughly $0.95, which is where Phantom's percentage catches Fomo's floor. Below that you are paying Fomo's minimum for the privilege; above it, Fomo's lower rate compounds, and by $1,000 a trade you are keeping $4 per swap that Phantom would have taken.
They are built for different jobs
Choosing on swap fees alone misses what you would actually be giving up either way.
If you want one place to hold everything
Phantom is a general-purpose wallet: NFTs, dApp connections, staking, multiple chains, and a seed phrase you control outright. Swapping is a convenience feature bolted onto that, and it is priced like one.
If your crypto life is broader than trading, a trading app is a poor substitute for a wallet.
If your reason for opening the app is to trade
The social feed, leaderboard and one-tap copying are the product, not an add-on. Gas is sponsored across supported chains, deposits can come from Apple Pay, and there is no seed phrase step in onboarding.
None of that exists in a wallet, at any fee level.

We could not confirm Phantom's current swap fee from Phantom's own published pricing, nor which pairs the 0.85% applies to, nor whether any promotional or zero-fee routes exist. We also could not verify Fomo's account-recovery process if you lose your device — a question that matters more on a no-seed-phrase model than on a wallet where you hold the phrase yourself. Check both before moving real size.
Frequently asked
Is Fomo cheaper than Phantom for swaps? +
Above roughly $112 per trade, yes. Phantom is reported to charge 0.85% on select swap pairs with no minimum, while Fomo charges 0.5% with a minimum of about $0.95 per trade. Below about $112 the Fomo minimum makes it more expensive; above it, Fomo is cheaper, and more so with a referral code at 0.45%.
Do you need Phantom if you use Fomo? +
No, they are not dependent on each other. Fomo generates its own self-custodial wallet with no seed phrase to record, so it does not sit on top of Phantom. Plenty of people keep a general-purpose wallet and a trading app separately, for different jobs.
Which one is safer? +
Both are described as self-custodial, so neither operator states that it can move your funds. The practical difference is key handling: Phantom gives you a seed phrase to protect yourself, while Fomo splits the key so there is no phrase to lose. Neither model protects you from the assets you choose to buy.
Trading is the job? Then price it like one.
Above ~$112 a swap, Fomo costs less than Phantom — and code FEESAVE takes another 10% off the rate. Below that, or if you need a real wallet, Phantom is the better answer and we will say so.
